Jean paused above the series of buildings, noting the irony of the name: ‘The Frances Xavier Ward School’. There was no way that she was going to charge blindly inside, especially when she had an innocent with her. “Give me a moment,” She told Lilliana, whose name she only knew due to their brief telepathic connection. “I want to scan the area… see what we’re up against.”
There were roughly nine people on the property, but only one was familiar. “Xavier…?” His presence was a little difficult to detect at first. It was as if his presence was blanketed, no, layered by another mind. There was a momentary conflict between the two minds before he was pushed back into a corner like a child in time out. No, that couldn’t be her Xavier, could it? He was old, bitter, and there was something wrong. How could this other mind have so much will over him? Why were they overlapped so?
This required further investigation. At least the mind over lapping Xavier’s didn’t seem… malicious. Still, it was better to be safe than sorry. The redhead looked over to Whistle, “I need you to stay close to me until I say otherwise, ok?”
Then, she descended downwards and to the front steps. Once she was sure Whistle was fully settled on the ground, she pulled open the front doors and led the girl inside. “Hello?”
