1) Options for theme... going with a more mystery-drama based type of thing with open rules for x-men.
2) We talked about "AU"ing things a bit more extremely... specifically:
the explosion between phoenix /goblin forces have gone off.. and x-men, people....etc.. all poof to Canada where they wake up in a mansion that is like, but not like, the x-mansion at home. Professor X and a few others aren't there, and there are some new, unexpected (and.. potentially unexplained..) faces along the way who are also there.
Potential reasons for this are:
Xavier, in an intensive moment to save those he loves has grabbed the people (maddie n Jean) and used their powers to create an alternate universe where they are all in a place to make a somewhat better life..
Some other force has moved to suck them into a place to learn/getstronger/prepare themselves for a greater fight when they go back to the "realworld"
---
Goals for this "storyarch" would include:
1) Finding out where they are- at first this is just "Canada" but then extending outward into a different world then they left. Like- but not like the one they left.
2) Deciding to build a life in this new world 'or' going back to the other one...
--- Preferably with the note when it's to far to go back, that the majority rule of staying/going is going to be in play. We will follow the story line the majority of the group feel it should go and either the ones who stay or go will be making new characters potentially at the end of the story arch.
--- this also explains why some people come in late, and go out early-- because they are being "awoken" or "put to sleep" in the real world...
------
Memories of "before the explosion" are "hazy and unclear..." and while some people "may seem familiar".. "what exactly happened" is a mystery to everyone there.
-This allows people to play and tweak canons without being forced to play carbon copies from one part of the comics or another....
----
--------------------- NOBLE BRIGHT/ NOTHING WITHOUT A PRICE-------------
There are forces of "evil" or "bad things" going on in the world... There are always villains in the world- Mr Sinister's genetic love children, Apocalypses need to control everything.. Galactus and his hunger pains... Death.... Melphasto and the demons of the underworld that spawns cute Nightcrawler babies... etc..
I'm not talking about a difference of perspective such as Magento's feelings of Mutants in relationship to humans, but in "I like your face. Do allow me to skin it off and use it for a cover later hmm? I'll tell your wife you love her" type of evil. Evil done Simply in the name, and delight, of fubaring someone's day.
Just as there are "Evil" forces at play, there are, and should be, more "Good" oriented type things also manipulating things- but with in a code of rules... and that rule is?
Nothing without a price.
Good creatures can only act IF they keep the balance going. It may be something that makes no sense at the time, but makes sense later. Good can't just manifest a good healing spell to save someone's life after they did something incredibly stupid.. Good MIGHT however have done a "favor" for a healer, and now is calling that "favor" in by having that healer have a "vision" that propels them to that area.
But nothing happens without a price being given or solved. EVIL should work much the same way in that they 'must' do something in which to get something in return... obviously in the point n purpose of evil..
That is following the "greater scale" imagery... this isn't just one person, these are forces of nature- and should be 'treated' as such. Rare occurrences that determine the ultimate outcome- which is purely player decided.
For the first story arch, potentially that decision is LITERALLY Go back to a marvel-centric New York City... OR stay in the place they are creating here.
okay? So that.. is what I had spawned out earlier <3 And fleshes out poor Peter's notes. ;P
Fuck it, there's way too much stuff to list. Here's a handy link of Chicago Attractions
I don't know how many of these were around in 1991.
The first two I listed, definitely. Great America was around in 1991, that much I know. Gurnee Mills is just North of Chicago which begs to ask another question.
Just where do you want the mansion to be?
Remember, Chicago, unlike a LOT of the US, actually has an 'ok' transportation system. Train Stations can take people from various towns into Union Station or Ogilvie Transportation Center (I have actually never been to Ogilvie). Then, there's the various lines in Chicago. I don't know if they were identified with colors in 1991 (red line, blue line, but no white line!), but that's how they are now.
