THANK YOU
On behalf of all the staff, storytellers and your fellow unknowing players- thank you and Congratulations on being accepted as one of the “Judges” of our game; your commitment to the game and helping us bring around better dimensions of input is priceless and I can’t help but thank you once again for offering your time and energy to this job. Please be aware however, that if you ever step outside of the perimeters below your “Position” will be taken away from you and you will be replaced.
This is a *secret position.* Please do not share with all your friends and friend-enemies the fact you have this position. This is to help the game keep your opinions as neutral as possible. Plus, as a Judge, you aren't allowed to take this information in character anyway! Even other staff don’t need to know your one of the judges- in fact, I would highly encourage you not to tell them. Even staff make mistakes after all.
Your duties are pretty simple.
- Submit 2 Quest/ Riddle/ Ideas to Joy with in the first two weeks of you being appointed. Ideally giving an additional idea every month subsequent. More ideas to play with are better then too few!
- Submit “player of the month” votes to Joy by the first of every new OOC Month (you cannot choose any of your characters)
- Submit your favorite scene or thread to Joy- this can be one that your character was a part of by the first of every new OOC month.
- If your “Group” won the round, then you choose a victory condition out of your set of powers- or choose an option of the three Joy sends you with the “congratulations your team has won.”
- Submit a personality for the Judge *
- Keep an eye on the people in your “Group” – Hey, your Judge wants to win the game, it only makes sense that you try to give them a chance to do it. Tilting your quests to their skill sets allows them an easier chance to win, and those others a chance to loose. And considering if a party is made up of many individuals who don’t know there’s a game going on.. and each individual gets “credit” for the win… Knowing your people is a good way to watch out for them later.
*This last doesn’t have to be done right away. And we only want a personality, a persona- male, female, etc. Your judge can be an alien, a ghost, a super powered mutant, whatever you want it to be. You don’t need to do powers- but do consider the fact they are the ‘supreme’ in what they are doing and guiding. If such a time the Judges all gather for a meeting to discuss things, Joy would like to know what personality is coming to the table. You will be invited to play at that meeting and speak your opinions about the matter at hand, or abstain and not go to the meeting. Yup, as a Judge you can do that.
While you don’t normally play your Judges, Judges can step forth on behalf of their players. Maybe you noticed that one of the newer players of your element is having a hard time fitting in and you want to do something to help them. An extra quest or riddle to get them deeper into the game- but you are still forbidden to actually interact with them. You are not forbidden to interact with the Dimension Witch who is the impartial witness to everything going on. You can send a PM with your issues to Joy (who plays the DW) and she will evaluate your concerns and either put your quest/riddle/whatever into motion on behalf of that player, or monitor it.
Your PC’s actions still count toward the vote, and if another judge puts them up for Member of the Month, you might even win it. Being a judge doesn’t exclude you from the contest on an in character playing field!
But here’s what you can’t do.
Judges are forbidden to talk to, help, guide, or otherwise assist their element players directly. Thus, if you were picked, you were picked because none of your characters are IN that element.
You can’t play a character that has their foot in your Judge Zone.
You don’t get to choose who plays in your element. That’s okay, you can’t interact with them anyway, but you can’t influence or help people choose your element when making a character either. Sometimes that means someone may not be participating in the games, sometimes it means you may not have anyone on your “side”… (well there will almost always be at least one person half npc/half pc for you even if there are no players for that skillset..)
You don’t do your own quests/riddles/or anything else you hand out as victory conditions for the OOC month. The staff takes them, makes any changes needed to make sure it fits the greater scheme of things, and runs them for you. If you find yourself on your own quest or riddle, then it isn’t your fault and you can play through accordingly. Odds are that means someone changed it up enough that it will still be a fun and unique thing for you. Likewise, if you win as a character, it counts for that judge- not yourself…
You are expected to play as if you are not a Judge at all. In fact, your character has ‘no idea’ that there are “judges” out there watching and recording what’s going on and making “judgments” on it. That’s why I opened it up to having “Players” (not staff) be the Judges- because players should also have a vote not just the staff.
If you stay on long enough as a Judge you’re going to start figuring things out a lot faster than those people in character. Part of the challenge of being a judge is keeping that not going in character. If your character makes a logic jump- make sure it’s the character doing it not the player. Too many problems or drips of ooc knowledge into character heads and you will be removed from being a Judge and someone new will be replaced.
If you go two whole months without doing your judge duties you will be replaced.
If you break any of the rules twice (once we assume is accident, twice now your just trying to irritate me) you will be pulled from the position of Judge completely and a new one will be found.
If everyone knows you’re a judge because you couldn't keep the secret- you will be replaced. * If people figure it out because they are actively trying to, that’s not the same as you just spewing everywhere n bragging about it. You wouldn’t be punished in the first case, but you would in the second.
If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitated to ask me. ^.^ If for whatever reason I am not around for an extended period I will leave you a message who will be taking my place (however temporarily) as the DW for your problems and issues. Some of our staff aren't Judges and are left out of this loop for development.
