The Blue Velvet (Club)
Located on the Northern side of the great state street and west of rush street tucked into a building that has been through it all is the Blue Velvet. This club is roughly 2 blocks away from the Academy and it's lines can be seen pretty constantly starting about 6 pm. This club, in it’s history has done it all, a Prohibition speakeasy, an Irish Pub, a blue collar tavern, and a gay bar. In recent history the club has been taken over again and remodeled into a club. There are four different bars, a huge dance floor and a VIP lounge that overlooks the entire club through a one way mirror. The Bartenders and servers were brought in from Los Angeles and all have an unfailing memory of any drink ever created. The waitresses are all tastefully dressed despite the name of the club.
This club is HUGELY Popular and on Friday and Saturday nights the line to get in stretches well around the block. The Doorman is Ian Gibson, a giant gorilla of a man who seems to be telepathically and empathetically immune. Perhaps most impressive is the fact he can spot any Champion (player character) out of a line. If a Champion(PC) approaches him, he will let them in, no questions asked- no word exchanged.. *no matter the age.*
Inside the dance floor is busy right up to closing time. During the most popular nights of Thursday, Friday and Saturday, the Best DJs in town play the top 100 for the dancers. Sundays and Mondays are slower and attract the hardcore element with no where else to go, the music then switches to progressive rock, heavy metal or anything else that looks like it might appeal to the fringe types. Tuesday and Wednesday tend to have music based on the mood of the audience, anything from techno to jazz to classical to country-western has been known to play on the speakers. Occasionally there are concerts here as well, but only the best of the best tend to be invited to play.
No one has ever admitted to seeing or knowing the owner. If asked, they are referred to Gibson or the manager Margo.
Hours of Operation:
The Club portions open at 6:30 PM and stay open until 2 AM. However the business portion of the business opens about 3 pm daily and people can be seen moving in and out well before 9am... Gibson himself doesn't "show up" to block the door until 5 pm.
You could, quite literally, walk inside before the club even begins.. of course... you will be stopped and asked your business, but you could.
